Pakistan to reduce over reliance on natural gas for energy

Image via Wikipedia The chief executive officer of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited, Azim Iqbal Siddiqi, has said that Pakistan needs to control its increasing reliance on its natural gas reserves in order to conserve energy reserves for future generations. like many expanding nations Pakistan need to investigate alternative energy resources, putting aside for the moment the effects on the Planets climate change of heavy sonsumption of fossil fuels, the fact of the matter is that these fuels - such as gas, coal and oil - are finite resources which cannot last forever!
At the moment natural gas usage makes up around 51% of the nations energy usage, Mr Siddiqi believes that this is excessive and steps should be taken to conserve its natural gas reserves. Mr Siddiqi reiterated that SSGC had been ensured gas distribution to its franchise areas and there is a big issue of gas load-shedding in Sindh and Baluchistan, adding that measured shortfall of 200 mmcfd, occurred in the current winter season is being managed by the company tactfully.

SSGC has managed its shortfall in its service providing areas by administrating its excessive gas supply of Faui Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited, Steel Mill Pakistan and Karachi Electric Supply Corporation to the residential customers, he briefed. Also, SSGC has earmarked Rs 32 billion for its developments projects that’s primary aim to ensure the supply to its consumers.
Regarding SSGC proposed tariff regime, he said that Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has rejected the inclusion of JJVL royalty in SSGC profit share and termed it deregulated sector, while the other rest of two factors late payment surcharge and meter manufacturing are being considered.
SSGC chief has expressed his hoped that the company will achieve Rs 300 million additional profits in the current fiscal year as it had re-scheduled its all-outstanding loans.
He recalled that SSGC had suffered Rs 150 million losses including both short-term and long-term, during the riots erupted after the assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
LNG Mashal Project: He said that the developer’s selection for Liquefied Natural Gas “LNG Mashal” project has been delaying as they were hesitating for the security risks of the country. Travel advisors of the companies are not giving them green signal due to the prevalent political scenario of the country, he added.
